What is PEG-MGF?

PEG-MGF stands for Pegylated Mechano Growth Factor. It is a changed form of MGF, a small protein made in muscle after hard exercise or muscle stress.

MGF is one form of IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor 1), a protein linked to muscle tissue. On its own, MGF breaks down in the body in minutes.

Pegylation is the step that changes this. It means attaching a molecule called PEG (polyethylene glycol) to the peptide. This stretches its half-life to about 48–72 hours.

What researchers study it for

• Muscle repair. Labs study how it affects muscle stem cells after exercise-linked damage.
• Muscle fiber growth. Studies look at muscle fiber regrowth over time.
• Tissue research. Researchers study its effect on tendon, bone, and nerve tissue, not just muscle.
• Half-life extension. Studies compare its 48–72 hour half-life to the short half-life of plain MGF.
